Just another thing to spend money on to look cool. I know a local guy here that Id put money on to catch as many stripers as anybody. He's a guide and used to have a show on ESPN as well with the NASCAR guys. Has taken people from the average Joe to Aerosmith to numerous NASCAR big wigs fishing. Also does trophy trips on the TN river. I dont think he owns a planer board. Personally, I dont think Ive been out fished in a striper tourny by a guy with planers either. I will say, that would probably change now, as theyre more popular and I dont fish for em as much as I used to.

Planer boards are like everything else. They have there place and time. And theres places that your buddy will be without a fish. If he does not have a few planer boards. Now I am not saying there the best thing for every body of water. But for some places there the bomb.
Also mine were free. Built them and did not cost me anything. That is the kind I like.

I haven't used planer boards before, but I have been looking around & reading a bit about them. Anyone have any input or suggestions on them? Thanks!

Every Fisherman has things that work for them. I'm sure they are not using them to look cool. Just look at the results in the pictures. I've never used them and I'm not gonna say that I want try them some day either. If I do try them it want be to look cool.

    Thumbs up Boards

Boards are like any thing else in fishing just another tool, some times they will catch all the fish some times none. They are one of the most versatile tools out there, use them for flatlining shad to cover more water, get your bait away from the boat when fish are spooky, use a sinker to spread out and fish deep, put on a lure or fly and troll. Many ways to use them, but when fish are spooky (boatshy) you simply can`t find a better tool.
Make my own, have several (yellow birds, offshore, etc.) that I bought before I started making my own.All run a little differently, sometimes use as many as 8 at a time. The only way to fish them wrong is to NOT fish them. They work, good fishin. possum1

I use em,but not all the time,(just when I want to look cool!),NAA,you can cover much more water when using them.I fish them the conventional way, pulling them behind the boat and the non conventional way at the roanoke river, while ancored down I use the current to pull them away and out from the boat to fish right on the bank.Works for me!

Does anyone have any detailed instructions (with diagram or pictures) explaining how to make your own planer boards?:o
