Love this time of year. Went looking for the crappie today but found these instead. Creeks are full of shad. Caught 9 of these throwing a Spro Little John MD 50 listed as Cell Mate. The hybrids absolutely hammered it. At one point I thought the rod was gonna break on the biggest fish. Did manage to squeeze in 3 crappies, a spotted bass, 2 bluegills & a channel cat on the slip cork minnow/rig. It's been a good day.

You might want to put a little lube on the drag after a workout like that one would give. Extra nice fish!

found them one fine day kinda like you did up in a creek , they beat the dickens out of us ....
them fish pulls WAY hard , best have the drag set right is the word ...
once they hit around 4 to 5 lbs , they pull like they are 30 to 50 ....
    freight trains with fins .....
back when the old timers here hated them , they called them tackle destroyers .....
only fish I ever seen jerk a guy literally out of the boat ....bad to the bone with a hook in them ...
nice ketch for sure ,,,,KABOOM is the word

Congrats on your outing, love them wipers whenever I get lucky enough to find them. Hope we get some rain soon and get some of those running up the rivers so I can catch a few. Big fun with top water baits, really get the heart beat going. Don't need to set the hook, hold on tight so you don't get rod ripped from your hand.

Watched one spool a fella beside me in the boat , he did get to say grab the net as the smoke rose off his reel , about 2 seconds before he ran out of line …..man did that line snap loud

We call them hybrids and the typically go up the creeks a few weeks after the white bass. They are a blast to catch and the fight like Mike Tyson. I caught a 8 pounder on 4lb line once. I was a memorable fight.
