Not sure in N.C. but here in KY. the hotter the better on hybrids. We don't use much live bait for them on Barkley. When the sun gets up in mid morning here they will usually move up off a channel to feed. Try throwing a heavy rooster-tail or spoon to the deep channel and bounce or jig it back up the ledge. You can also throw from deep to shallow and pull down the ledge. If by luck they are in a jump busting the top of the water, you can pretty much throw what ever you want and then hang on. Once you find a school it's fun and easy fishing. I love to put my grandkids on them. I use heavy hopkins and cotton cordell spoons and homemade roostertails that are a 1/2 ounce.
