No matter the depth if you get into a school of them busting shad a silver buddy reeling quickly will get them near the top, and if they go deep just let it drop.

Course if you have several rods with you nothing is more fun then getting them on a topwater while they're up.

What's the secret to finding whites and hybrids? Also would like to know if there is any particular way to put the chicken livers on the treble hook , such as using a stocking or netting? Thanks for any info you can give me.

I was with a crappie guide on Lake Lewisville when the sand bass started running, he told us the hybrids can be caught on the same kind of bait (we actually caught crappie and sand bass on the same bait), the bigger should be down deeper below the visual action at the surface, however I have yet to catch one or even see one caught, the hybrids are supposed to be pretty big (we were using crappie jigs, mostly chartreuse)

I'll second these opinions !! Thumbs Up

And I'll also recommend taking your "Silver Buddy" (unpainted version) and painting it WHITE !! They used to come painted white, but the newer versions don't (or, at least, I haven't seen any).
I'll also recommend trying a Tiny Torpedo (topwater prop bait) for casting into "jumps" !! (especially if they're heavily concentrated in one small area).

Another "topwater" rig, that's deadly on Whites & Hybrids, is the "Plunker & fly" !! The "fly" part is actually just a small jig, approximating the size of the baitfish being chased ... but, usually no bigger than a 1/16oz. The "Plunker" part can be any topwater popper lure (with or w/o hooks) ... or there are several styrofoam versions that can be purchased. Its main purpose is to allow you to cast the "jig on a leader", a good distance ... as well as "popping/chugging" the water's surface, to mimic another fish busting a baitfish. The Whites/Hybrids are very competitive, and will gang up on a baitfish that's being pursued by another fish. The 'plunking' (popping/chugging) splash, made by the "Plunker", draws them to that spot ... and the jig on your 12-18" leader, just looks like another baitfish trying to "get away".

    ... cp

Bomber Fat A or Model A crankbait (chrome/blue back), shad body on 1/8 ounce jig head, Rattle Trap 1/4 ounce (chrome/blue back) and when all else fails I will try catching some small shad or use minnows on a drop shot rig.

my favorite set up is a blue shore minnow patterned zara spook behind a medium sized front runner. Lots of 2 or 3 fish hook-ups. sometimes a striper will hit the spook. I think they think it's a smaller white chasing a shad and figure to get him when he isn't paying attention. Glad the front runner is on the market again.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
The two loudest sounds are a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and one that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.
