Rat-L-Trap, usuallly blue\chrome or black\chrome. Sometimes the smaller sizes work better

I have not had a chance to fish for whites in quite a while, as the lake I most frequently fished, has seen an almost complete disappearance of whites over the past couple of years... But, I had two go-to baits that I used, each for a different application..

When they were bustin shad, you couldnt beat throwing a Silver Buddy into the school of shad, and then ripping this thing out of the school towards the surrounding whites.

And for when I was jigging a light at night, I would always drop a Panfish Assassin on a 1/16th jig head down below where the whites were hanging in the water column, and twitch and reel it up through them. They'd smash it almost every time.

For me, its hard to beat a 1/4 ounce Chatterbait with the skirt removed and a small pearl whate fluke added in its place. If I cant catch them on that...then its time to go home and do something more constructive instead.

I was fishing with my little brother and a guide going after crappie on Lake Lewisville, we noticed the sand bass were starting to chase the baitfish and it got to the point where we were surrounded on several occasions for about 30 minutes, those sand bass were hitting the same crappie jigs we used all day and they weren't that big but they can hit a bait like nobody's business and fought much harder than I expected; we ended up with 13 keepers (threw about as many non-keepers back); I think it matters more to the crappie what color of jig you use, the sand bass were pounding everything we threw at them (ended up up with 22 black crappie that morning, too, great day of fishing)

"Way back when" we had a lot of white bass here in the 80's(there all but gone now) we used a bayou boogie and the smallest rattlin rap you could get1.75inch I think..We would almost allways troll for them.Lots of folks that casted from the bank would use a tandem rig of two green split tail jigs, quarter ounce head. Also used a bucktail with an ice fly,,most hits would be on the ice fly and every once in a while you could get two at a time on that rig,,boy that was a blast...Our lakes started dwindling on the numbers of white bass when the numbers of white perch increased..The white perch now in Sc is OFF the gamefish list.Dont know for sure if the white perch was the demise of the white bass but thats what most blame it on...

If they are on top a 1/8oz. buzz bait is the most fun for me May catch more on rooster tail or kastmaster but more fun on the buzz bait J
