I use to guide for them below the dam in the tail waters. August through october is usually the best with september being the best.
Just wondering if anyone fishes for stripers below the dam at either Kentucky or Barkley lakes. If so when is the best time to give them a try? Used to go when I was a kid but haven't been in years.

This is a report from Malcolm Lane of Hook Line and Sinker Guide Service for 12-7-05
Sauger and stripper fishing has been the better fishing this week. Some
good catches of sauger have come from below Kentucky Dam on jigs and
minnows fished off the bottom. Bright colored jigs have been working
best.
Stripper are being caught on live baits fished along the bottom
from both tail waters. The strippers and sauger are spotty yet but
should only improve.
The weather has kept the crappie fishermen and the
largemouth fishermen at home. There has been little activity to report.
Bluegill are slow.
Catfishing has been fair. Blue cats have been caught
along the river channels on yellowtail bounced along the bottom. Channel
cats have been slow.
TIP: Be careful. The water temps are in the upper 40's.
His latest report to me on 12-14 did not mention Striper...so I assume it has slowed considerably.
