    Default Another Grays Harbor Week

This sucks big time. Start to get in the mood and see things changing and this happens. Rain and cold. It is May isn't it? I am so jonesing to go out and hurt some lips on Duck Lake and every time I get some sort of plan to go it rains and gets cold again. Only good thing about it is there should be some big fish as no one has been going out and slaughtering them yet.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.

Yeah, it sucks. But the up side is that the spawn has not happened yet and this weather will force them to spread the spawn out over a longer timeframe. That's great news for weekend worriors like myself who can miss a hot spawn bite that might only last 4-6 days during a normal year. This weekend looks great though and I think most of the females will move up super shallow in good numbers sometime next week. Hang in there man. We're in the same boat with ya.

I use to slay them on a bait simmilar to the Bass pro shop cajun critter out there at Duck lake. Chart. body with red legs. Used to cast out then let the wind drift us thru parts of the lake. We would find a school then mark them for a few more passes. Small fish at the time thou but fun to catch on ultralights. It was around spring break time so i think they were staging for the Spawn cause they were about 5 to 6 feet deep.

I am thinking the spawn will start i about a week or so too. No matter though, I don't care, I just want to go and catch fish and lots of them. Hope to get some nice crappie and fill a bucket of gills and perch. Throw in a couple nice trout and maybe a few bass would make a perfect day on the last lake I have been skunked on.

Crappie Badboy I went there once with a buddy of mine for Bream. It was one of those days where i promised myself I wouldnt revert back to Crappie fishing when I was out so I only brought the basics for live bait fishing for Bream. Well the Bream that day were small and all I could see on the Gragh were big fish everywhere. Wish i had of brought the rest of my gear cause i know we could have brought in a mess of fish. The Area looks great but I normally fish on Ft. Rucker since I can have my boat on the water in 15 minutes. Have you been able to find any good sized Crappie out there in Washington? I used to live on Chambers lake in Lacey and I tell you it was the best Bluegill fishing I've ever done. Anyone could catch hundreds but the trick to catching the big ones was using a black fly with white wings and a red streak from its rear end.

All fishing has sucked here for a couple years but that olé bad arse el nino is moving and things should change for a couple years. Trout fishing is already much better and I have heard that the panfish are finally hitting on the lakes early.

Largest crappie I have ever seen from up here was the size of a dinner plate, from base of tail to tip of nose and belly to back it would have touched all the way around I swear. Don't know how big it was, it was never weighed to my knowledge but it was huge.

Haven't been out for them yet but I am going for crawdads ASAP. Should be a great time to hit them now with a nice stretch coming up. Warm water should have them moving. Gonna hit crappie, salt water and trout hopefully in the next week too.
