    Default Lake Ohop

The plan was to fish L. WA for crappies but I woke a bit too late:D. Figured I'd give Ohop a try since it's only 15 miles from home. Got to the ramp at 6am and headed out to the spawning grounds to search for any fish that may have moved up.

The weeds and pads are just starting to come in good and the fish were holding tight to wood cover more than they were the pads or grass. The deeper holes were much better than up shallow. Water temp was a steady 65.6*.

Males are up shallow now and starting to show some spawning colors. We caught maybe 25 or so with most only going 6-9" with very few females. The females that we did catch were hanging under the tips of laid down trees and right on the bottom. Color didn't matter..they hit everything you'd throw at them. No beds were cleared out yet. Maybe another week or so and the females should invaded the shallows to spawn.

We ran into a bunch of Pumkinseeds as well. Mostly females with a few males here and there. I don't think they are spawning yet either since they were also out in the tips of laid down trees in 8-9' of water. There were no beds cleared out yet.

Bluegills are moving up as well. We caught some females that were just loaded with eggs and looked ready to pop. Most them were 8" with a couple around 9.5". They were also out deeper on brushpiles that you have to find via sonar. The piles in 9-13' seemed to be the magic number for them. We caught maybe 20-25 of them in about an hour from two brushpiles. There were a few small fish in 4-6' but the bigger ones are still out deeper holding on brush. They are ready to spawn though. Maybe another week or two and they'll be in the shallows bedding.

    Cool

What's Up Slab? Man I Was There Fri. Morning About 7a.m And Was Fishing From The Far Right Of The Boat Launch And The Skunk Was Right There Fishing Too. Last Year In That Lake All Of The Crappie I Caught Were 6 To 9 Inches, It's Like Almost All Of The Big Crappie Were Gone. Dawg, We Hit Docks All Over And We Even Went To The Far Left To The End Of The Lake Where The Padz Were Really Strong And Man It Was Like We Found A Crappie Nursery, But No Large Ones. I'll Holla - Nice Gills

Yeah, I'm ready when you are man. It's a fun lake to fish.

CRAPPIE BADBOY, I don't know what's up with the crappie. I'll try it again next weekend and look for the bigger fish.....if they still are in there. I was with my girlfriend so I had to make sure we were catching fish the whole time or she'd get bored. If I had more time to check the deep brush I bet the bigger fish were in them.

Great report Slab, many thanks for the information. They just called and my boat is done so I should be back on the water this weekend. I may give Ohop a go or I may go back to Kapowsin and see what I can find there.
