have any suggestions for taking an eight year old to catch some panfish at Moses or Potholes this weekend? Like my name suggest, I don't have a boat. Thanks

Soda Lake (just south of the dam) would be a great place to take him. If you get to the inlet stream early in the morning you can nail some trout, crappie, bluegill, tons of bass, and maybe a nice walleye or two. A worm on a size 8 hook with a small split shot up the line will do the trick. Cast it into the current and let it drift. Also, medicare beach on Potholes, the state park on Moses Lake, and the two spillways always hold fish. The state park and the spillways will be like shooting fish in a barrel right now. Good luck if head over. I'll be staying at Mar Don this weekend, hope to see ya.
There are spots back in the dunes where the fish haven't seen a lure in months. Might be worth a drive back there if have some free time.

what do you catch at medicare? always heard it's good trout....
i would at least give some time to the dock. it's real easy to fish and you WILL catch fish. there is a lot of bluegill and crappie under that dock. a couple maggots on a small hook will catch a ton of fish (mostly bluegill). if you want more crappie, use a 1/32oz tube jig with maggots. the maggots on a hook with a splitshot would be great for a kid. he will have a great time!
good luck
fishing isn't a sport, it's a way of life.

I was going to avoid it that weekend because of the dock tourney at Mar Don. Urban, Koke and I where thinking about giving it a shot that next weekend...the 30th. Now, if the fishing is really good this weekend I may head out there for the next two or three weekends :D.Originally Posted by CajunChris1

Howdy Stuck,
I know what its like. I had to use Map Quest because its been over 30 yrs since I was stationed at Othello Radar Sta. On the western side of Othello is N. Broadway. You head No. until you cross the RR tracks. Follow that road (W. McManamon) until you see small ponds on your left. Now in the early 70,s there was access to these ponds and were loaded with panfish and trout. Also someone mentioned Soda and that was another great lake to fish although a little harder from shore. In both waters a marshmallow on the bottom was deadly for trout and a white fly strip (Uncle Josh) with a red salmon egg suspended by bobber/float were deadly on panfish. Good Luck Larry
