Default New to Fort Lewis AKA JBLM

    Hello All,

Just recently arrived from Fort Riley KS and now stationed on Fort Lewis (JBLM). Looking for any crappie location recommendations in the immediate area but also willing to travel a bit. A few questions, when does the spawn begins here? What is the bait of choice? Any information or recommendation will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks....

welcome from Oregon it's been a long time since I been to Fort Lewis is I went through basic training there in the 60s have you tried Silverlake in your state just down the freeway from Fort Lewis it's pretty well good fishing the year-round also there's quite a few places close by to you.

Do you have a boat or are you fishing from shore? There's Harts Lake that has crappie and I think Sequalitchew has them too. I haven't tried fishing either but I've heard Harts you can fish from the resort dock and catch crappie if you're on shore. I'll be heading back this weekend to Bremerton for the trout opener and trying out a lake I found with crappie last year on Saturday, hopefully the trout don't annoy me like they did last year when I went there the first time.

jbball50.....thanks for information. I have a small pontoon boat. I tried Sequalitchew yesterday from the bank and did not get one bite. I also did not see any bait fish swimming around. So maybe they are still deeper, but will try again once the weather gets warmer. I will look into harts lake. Additionally, I will share the magic crappie lake once I find it. Thanks again for the information!

We might be going down to Silver Lake in Cowlitz County on Friday too, I'll post a report if my dad and me end up going down there. We're trying to get my little nephew on his first fish ever this weekend.

Well......Jbball and snake river. I did go to Silver Lake in Cowlitz County. I stayed a few days at the silver lake resort. I fished off the dock and it was going a little rough. The moment I downsized my jigs (red and white tube) to 1/16....the fight was own. I had quite a few keepers and mostly were black crappie. Had a great time! Now if I can find a few hot spots near dupont.....I will be one happy man. Until then.....love life and keep fishing!

Nice job, we ended up not going down to Silver Lake, guess we should have. We ended up going to Riffe Lake and catching our limit of landlocked silvers. Then tried the lake I found last year on Sunday but didn't find any crappie and only caught 1 small bass, caught 5 trout though and lost a bunch more. Thought there would've been some in the shallows since it's a pretty small lake. Was it pretty consistent catching the crappie once you downsized?
