    Default Kerr-Eastland-34-2@15"

I was on the lake at 7:00.

By the end of the day I caught these two.

    One was 1lb 13.5oz, the other was 1lb 14.5oz. One was a hair over 15" the other a good 1/4" over 15".

I had started out long lining jigs tipped with a minnow and started off by missing 3 of my first 4 including a decent one that broke water 10' from my boat. I was getting mostly small crappie with a few at 11", then one at 12.5". Not happy with the results I switched to spider rigging and vertical jigging a brush pile that was in 24' of water. I caught my first 15" crappie there with a minnow fished 14' deep.

I picked up a few more on this brush pile as I chatted with two guys fishing in the Bobcat tournament. I think they were hoping I would leave the brush pile, (which I didn't for a while) and probably were not too happy to see my pull a 15"er from it. :D Heck, I figured I was helping Fishdoc out by keeping them away from it.

I worked the shallows some and only caught one male in 7" of water. I saw two other guys anchored up deep in the shallow brush and never saw them catch anything. They left after a short while.

I pulled cranks for a bit and only caught 2 small white perch but when I pulled them a few hours later I got 6 crappie including my other 15"er. Here's some smaller crank bait crappie.

The crank in the last pic is a kewl orange that I've been forcing on the crappie. Today I finally got a taker.

I really like Eastland, it's just too bad it's 145 miles away.

Surface water temp was 64 early and late in the afternoon I saw it as high as 75. I caught some crappie with cajun cricket but pearl/chartreuse did just as well. The water is clearing up, I could see down around 2'. Crank baits with pearl in them did best.

I'm taking my wife to Western Branch tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully we'll catch a few.

    Tap,
Good day out there. I was able to make it out with Ted. We had a good time. We finished with about the same as you (he has the fish and the official count). Caugth most of the tight and long lining. Didn't find anything shallow. I may go to the WB tomorrow as well so may see you there.

Congrats Tap on the two citations. What kind of crankbaits are those that you are pullin'? I think I saw a swivel on one of the crankbaits... do you use the swivel to reduce line twist? Good luck to you and your wife tomorrow.

These are Bandit 300 series. I have 44 of them. I collect them like a kid used to collect matchbox cars. I also have 29 in the 200 series and 14 in the 100 series. Bandit's are very popular amongst crappie fishermen. Especially the 300 series since it has more action than the 200 or 100 series. Terrible line twist without a swivel, for me it's a must have plus it makes it real easy to change out crank baits.

Tap...Those two large crappie don't appear to have spawned yet,
is that correct? Congrats on your catch, very nice fish.
