    Default NWR Report Sat

Fished the NWR on Sat and caugth a lot of fish but everything was small. I did manage 12 keepers 8 were crappie, also had yellow and white perch, and a rock bass or warmouth as some people call them I think (fishing buddy just had to keep it because it was cute). Good day on the water but still nothing on much size. Biggest crappie was 13. I just can't find the larger fish in the NWR. Any suggestions?

All fish were caugth long lining jigs and minnows or casting jigs. I caugth fish from 2-12 ft. All of the larger fish were caugth 8-10. Used a yellow and white curly tail jig with a red or black jig head.

    Pics will be coming soon.

Make a trip to Kerr. It's rare that you hear of a big crappie coming out of that river. On the flip side, lots of 2lb+ are caught at Kerr regularly.

Like Bill and Tap said, if you caught a 13" crappie @ NW you dun real good.

That almost echos my report in NWR on Friday Navy, the bite was fine but mostly dinks, we must have caught 40 fish, tight-lining and flipping etc...brought home two pickeral, 1 shad, a warmouth, and maybe 10 crappie all between 9-11 inches (shrug),

I'm thinking that lake is holding keeper crappie on the NC side or it's all about the perch in the winter..

Nothing wrong with one foot+ crappies.
Thanks for the report. Looks like you got familiar with the local water real quick like.

Thanks for the report swabi. Sounds like a typical day on NWR. I'll take 13" crappie all day long.

    Shell,
I am starting to get the NWR but I know rivers pretty well, the lakes however have got me stumped. I tend to run and gun and it is hard to do that with a trolling motor. I know how to fish larger reserviour lakes but these smaller ones have me stumped. Are you fishing this week? I have the week off if you want to go to the lake. I am always looking for some knowledge.

    Squirrel,
I measured it. It was by far the largest crappie that I have caugth on the NWR. I had the one at 13 one at 11 and the rest were 9-10. Both were the largest I have caught there.

    Tap,
I still need to get to Kerr. I fished there a few years back when I lived in NC. These local lakes have me stumped so it is like the challenge LOL!!!
