    Default Buggs Island on Sat.

Hit Sandy Creek Saturday with my grandson Samuel and a relic hunting friend Max from VA Beach, his very first crappie trip. By 8:30 there was hardly a parking spot left at Ocaneechee State park. Two carp tournaments at the same time, they was running and gunning all day. We drugg some minners in the places I've caught them before and were not having much luck. Tried the channel, tried brush, tried the points, not many and small. I think the boat traffic was pushing them somewhere but I don't know where. By afternoon they were starting into the bushes along the shore and we caught a total of 22. One nice white bass, he took off like a freight train and Max thought he had the biggest crappie in the lake. Samuel and Max both had never seen a carp weigh in so we hit the bank at 4:00 and watched, they were having a tough day too, a few limits, 16 pounds won it and biggest fish was about 3.5. Samuel was ready to go by then so we waited for our chance to get loaded, I believe thats the most boats I've seen at one place ever. We kept the white bass and 7 fat crappies, biggest was 13 incher and fat. They all hit Kalins grubs in three feet or less, I think we could have done better if we had stayed, they were just starting to bite. But Samuel said he had enough and I did not want to push it on him. Max took some pictures, I left my camera in the truck. Click here for Max's pictures, I believe he liked those crappie. I might have to play hooky from work about Thursday and hit them again. Hope everybody had as good a weekend as me.

Default Yes they are a lot of fun, his sister

likes to fish too. Her turn next time. Seven and eight years old, too much to handle at the same time from the boat. She has to hold every fish and tell them goodbye. Gets tough when the bite is on and there are 4-5 fish on at once, rods jumping, fish flopping all over the boat and she still wants to hold each one and talk to them. He has caught two citation yellow perch, we got one mounted and now she wants a fish on the wall too. Says hers will be bigger.
