Good report and pics. Thanks for sharing
Couldn’t resist. Picked up my buddy Allen and headed to Buggs Island yesterday. Beautiful day. Found lots of fish. Most refused a jig and a minnow. Ended up with about 25 crappie, mostly small. Had a blast.
Ran across these boys. Thought they were fishing.
But they might have been watching tv.
One cork went under in 10’ of water. And this happened.

First one of these ever in my boat.
We had a looooong, wonderful day. Picked him up at 6am. Dropped him off at 8pm. Fished morning at Rudd’s. Went to Clarksville for lunch then launched at Occoneechee. Found 1000 fish on bridge supports but they ignored us. I’ll be back and test their mood again. I did sleep good!!! All fished returned to the water.
Until we meet again……

Sounds like a great trip
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
Great pictures and video. That’s one big fish in the video. Did ya get it on a jig or minnow? Thanks for sharing with us

When I keep my gratitude higher than my expectations I have a good day
Dayton,
Good seeing you the other day. Sorry we didn't stick around and see y'all more. We had a very similar day on the crappie. The bite was very tough. Allen, congratulations on a beast flathead. Nice video as well. Great job. And Dayton that is a really nice shellcracker. Hopefully the crappie will want to play a little nicer on your next trip.
Good to see you guys too. It’s cool to see you two having a good time together. Laughing and fishing. Teaching and learning. I appreciate you keeping me find the right places to start when I come down. I’ll be back soon.
That catfish took a tiny minnow under a cork. Minnie was down about 7’ in 12’ of water.
Hi Don. Good to hear from you. Yeah, I was stalking those guys. If the catching had been better I would have taken some video of them for the board. It felt so good to spend a day on Buggs again.
I might go bass fishing. We finished up Thursday’s crappie trip in Sandy Creek. The creek behind Occoneechee Start park. The creek is protected and basically one big flat with a good amount of boat docks. We saw schools of bait fish and some breaking fish. I can’t help but think this would make a great place to start a day. Or come back and fish in the afternoon. One of us pitching a favorite slow-falling, soft bait around and inside the docks. Partner throwing topwater until one of us find something that they want.
Lots of tournaments happen at Occoneechee so lots of bass get released there. There is one small bridge with 4 supports and rock rip rap to hit on the way in and out. Plus a marina for fish to hide under if it’s not posted.
Just seems with the water temps 65-70* that there should be fish just about any water depth. I used to have good luck banging a deep running, rattling crank baits across rip rap. The fish loved it when darted after hitting rocks.
