Default First trip to Back Bay in Virginia Beach, zero crappie, zero fish.

Well, the thread title says it all. I had been curious to explore Back Bay as I am only 11 miles to the Mill Landing boat ramp and so yesterday my wife and I headed on out. We covered a lot of water and never saw anything deeper than 6' with the vast majority of water around 4'-5' deep. We ran all the way up north but I never explored past a water depth of 3' as I did not want to get stuck in my Lund. There are numerous large duck blinds which is pretty much all we fished as there are no trees along the shore line and if there were the water would be too shallow. My wife caught 2 white perch but that was it for the day. We only fished from around noon to 4:00 which I know is not the ideal time. Showed surface water temp at 86. Winds were light out of the east at 8-10mph but you would think they were blowing closer to 20mph as it is wide open out there, my wife was getting sea sick from us bouncing around in my 17' Lund Pro Guide. Boat ramp was on the west side which was a pain putting the boat back on the trailer. Perhaps if I ever head out there again I should head south towards North Carolina?

Its been many, many years (mid 70's ??) since I've fished there. Duck blinds were the place to go back then but not newer ones. The older the better. We used to put in at Davis Landing but it closed up when he passed away. I have no idea if it ever reopened or not. I doubt I could even find it now. Sure brings back a lot of fond memories.

Size: 38.0 KBI know this is an old thread
but I added a couple pics for tap. Right out from this dock in false cape state park
are a few duck blinds(unless storms took them out again)
the water is 8 ft deep. This is where you may find crappie !
without the grass this water kinda stays rough now days so pay attention to the wind.
the water can get rough so ya kinda need a fast boat to get out quickly.
you will be amazed at the size of these crappie, if you catch one let it go
this water needs more fish. You may find all the fish on 1 of the 4 blinds and
none at the others. During the spawn they are up in the canals of sandbridge.
beware of shallow water, north wind = no go these days. Goodluck
