Went out Thursday with my fishing buddy to a creek off of the Chick. We fished from 10:00 to 2:00 only catching a few bass and yellow perch. We were talking about heading back to the ramp when my friend said "let's try over here for a few minutes". We threw our slip bobbers onto a mud flat holding about 2-3 FOW. It was non-stop slabs for an hour and a half. Must have pulled in at least 60 between the two of us. Smallest fish was about 9". I guess it pays to try something different once in a while.
Nice going, glad you found them.

It's interesting that you caught them so shallow this time of year.

Good catch. If I may ask, were you using jigs or live bait and did you see shad on that flat?
That does happen. Guys that catfish a lot use a gill net to catch gizzard shad. I hear about them catching crappie in the net on the flat, in the middle of nothing, in 3-7' of water.
Won't these warm days push them in the flats in the afternoon? I can' t remember if Thursday was warm, or not.
Jay, we were using 2" curly tail grubs in a smoke color on 1/32 jig heads. We had the bobbers set about 28". Any deeper and they wouldn't stand up. Weird, huh?

Thanks for the post. I guess just try something completely different. Throw common sense out the door. Sometimes when ice fishing I have done well in only a few feet of water also.
Thanks. Does sound a little weird. I hope you told those crappie where they were suppose to be this time of year. lol
