Default Citation Crappie in NW River!

You wish, but I bet I got your attention. Every time there is a tournament or bash mum is the word, everyone thinks they got some special honey hole that is theirs only. When in fact most folks fish the same places in the river over and over.

Yesterday was perfect, no wind sunny I bet the NW river was full of fisherman, Hmmmm no post??

Maybe I will just ride around during bash day and mark waypoints!! Sorry for sounding so negative but this board has gotten so quiet yet the crappie fishing has been getting so much better, at least on the NW river. 12" was once pretty special but now it is the norm, with 13" and a rare 14" getting caught. I still think river crappie are thicker, heavier, and taste better than lake crappie. What yall think?

I have not really noticed any difference in taste. However, I agree they tend to be a bit thicker and more "oval" shaped than their lake cousins. I haven't been on the river but once since October, but I hear they are catching a lot and the size is getting better. I just can't get myself away from rabbits and bass this year for some reason. I need to get down that way and try to get in on the action.

When I fish the NWR, you will know it! All the locals follow me around and mark my spots.

Would have to disagree on the taste issue. I think taste can be effected by water quality. Overall my guess would be most resovoirs have a higher water quality than most rivers, and then most of your river crappie have parasites which has been discussed on here. I do think river fish overall are stronger fighters for their size as they live in an eviroment with current.
