Default My crappie won't play.......we switch gears.

Took a friend out a couple weeks ago with a bucket of minnows and a bunch of bridge pillings to scan. Mark two good schools of suspended fish. Both groups were small catfish hanging out on the down current side of wood or concrete. He caught a mess of them and had fun.

Didn't go far because my motor was not staying in gear. Shift linkage I hoped. Took it home and made some adjustments. Went back the next week and tried 4 good deep water holes in the James with crappie minnows. Not a bump, sniff or nothing.

Last night I was watching some James river youtube videos and watch some catfish action. I must admit I got the fever for one. So Shawn and I want out at lunch today and caught some fresh gizzard shad (alewife) and set up right after the tide began to come in.

Shawn has a new personal best catfish. Later we did drown a few minnows before the sun went behind the trees. 2 bass and one bream.

    Had a nice afternoon.

I LOVE IT Dayton......Sittin here in NC, cruising the old VA fishing sites which make me homesick.....Man I love that river.

I swear the best year I ever had fishing was with folks like you, slab, and a few others teaching me about how to fish the river......I'd give a lot to go back to that year (2008-2009ish). Thanks for posting this!

Ha! I did the same thing this AM. Dropped in at Ancarrows. Last of the outgoing. Caught a cat every 8 minutes or so. Only fished a little over an hour. Largest was 13.5 lbs. Most were 3-5 lbs. Good fun. All healthy looking fish. No sores or scars. Nice video. Great action for the kids. Took my son the week of xmas. Daughter is next. A world class fishery 12 miles from the house.
