Default How long til fish take up around a Christmas tree?

Took ours down and put it out the first week of January. Been checking it and have not seen a single fish around it. How long should it normally take?

Many my years ago myself and a friend dropped a tree with our axe in a good crappie spot. We went back the next day and there were crappie around it. I thin it was during spring spawn.

I've read that soft wood like a Christmas tree will only work for a little while before it breaks down. Use a hardwood like oak. Both will in time start to algea up but the hardwood will last longer. You can also add to it from time to time to keep the good times rolling. Also in a tidal situation they will stay put a little better.

What is the lighting scheme? Color sometimes makes a world of difference.

Christmas trees make some of the worst brush piles I've ever seen. Ya need to either burn needles off or wait til it dries an shake them off. seems to be a bad smell on most that crappie don't like. or maybe the left over tinsel hurts their eyes! Willow is the best wood I've used, but only last a couple yrs. Sweetgum, Dogwood, maple an sycamore some of the best. Late summer/early Fall is best time to build to get fish to use them.

I have limited experiene with bamboo. we fixed 16 buckets an sunk them last yr, they all fell over! sunk most in 30+fow so they would come up to 15ft or so. placed 3-4 buckets together, they fell over an only come up to 25ft now, ain't caught much on them. maybe if the lake gets down this comin yr like it usually does they will produce.
