    Default Saturday-Buggs 36 crappie.

My wife joined me today for a trip to Buggs and had the honor of catching the first crappie of the day.

Her smile is a bit better than mine.

It was a slow bite for us but I did manage my second black nosed crappie.

It hit hard, just about pulled my 11' rod in the water.

For those in SE Virginia like me that don't get to see white crappie, here's another one.

The biggest only went 1lb even with one just shy at 15oz. I would say that the vast majority of the crappie we caught were white. I had to get my annual parking permit form Northbend Park so we put in at Eastland and only manged 7, tried a few spots with no luck then had some luck in Island Creek and Grassy. Most the crappie were caught 13' down over brush with some caught as deep as 21'. Vertical jigging a pearl/chartreuse wasshoppah did best as well as casting a Cajun Cricket BGBS with some caught on Blue/Pearl and one on Blue Ice.

High temp out there was 91 but it was comfortable on the water and a great day to motor around. I showed water temp at 75-80.

It was dead calm for most of the morning. Not a good combination, blue skies and water that looked like glass.

Good report and pic's. It seems that the big fish always go to the wives, my wife usually catches the big one's also. Good to have them fishing with us, thanks for sharing.

My son and I made the trip Saturday from Winston, we put in at Bluestone we only caught 18 and had 5 keepers, caught most on minnows on brush, but the biggest and all keepers were caught tight linning, being new to fishing buggs is the lake down that much from the dry weather or do they pull it down that low this time of year?

when conditions take a turn like this, I've solved that problem by goin upstream til the water color gets darker. this will off set the calm, clear sky conditions. plus the fish will be shallower. we've been doin better an better above the bridges at Clarksville, last few trips.
