Default Boy was I rusty, caught 2 but wow what a place!

I did my annual trip to Lake Drummond, it's been reported it has crappie? I tooled around the shoreline and did not get a bit, I kept seeing fish hit to surface about 50 yards offshore. Lots of hangups and I was tired of casting so I rigged up 4 poles to troll. 2 jigs and 2 100 series bandits crankbaits with only 5 to 6 feet of line out, I could see the lure. I set to speed on 2 and took my shirt off and decided to just tour the lake. It is a very cool looking place. Well I caught 2 at 6" both on the bandit. Those fish could hardly get the hooks in there mouth.Name: fish.jpg

    Default Thanks so much!

I have always wanted to see drummond, thanks to your report I have now gotten a glimpse.
What little I have read indicates that it is too acidic to support a good gamefish population, although the grindles should enjoy it if there is anything to eat. Thanks for the good report.

I know for a fact that there are some hoss crappie in that lake. Most are caught when spawning on the cypress knees. I have seen fish from there over two pounds. Sure are some pretty pictures

I had a pass to drive to the boat ramp, it expires June 15. You can call and speak to the army corp. guy at the lift trolly, I forgot to call him today. Folks run the trolly to deep and it gets the wire off track, then it is months before they fix it. boat wt limit is said to be 1,000lbs but the trolly throws the breaker for boats that weigh less than 500 lbs. The army corp guy can adjust the amps up if he is there otherwise you are stuck. If someone breaks the trolly while you are in the lake you must be prepared to hand carry boat out so you had better have a light boat!!! I wish they would put a indicator as to where to stop the trolly. This would stop folks from running it off track. The depth near shore 1.3 to1.9 feet lots of hang ups with the trolling motor. west shore has a few spots with 3-4 feet water, North shore is shallow, south shore is awful full of stumps. East shore is grinnel heaven, but the wind is ALWAYS from the southwest. ANY wind 15mph and above and the opposite side of the lake is rough high chop that will fill up jon boats quickly, water depth near shore 100yds is 5 feet lake depth is 7 feet. Only hole is the canal to the trolly. OH that canal is tough to find, you had better have a GPS, and mark its location. One side of the lake can be like glass while the other is 2-3 feet waves. The camp ground seems to always have campers almost all winter long. Even the coldest night of the year. It is a nice place to camp. Oh you can carry a gun but you cannot discharge it. I have seen a few HUGE red belly water snakes and a bunch of naked people. Don't ask me why, the skeds are so loud it can sound like an airport.
