Yep, yesterday was a tough day where we fished!
Friday morning my favorite day to fish, storms have passed, everything wet its cloudy the weather man says sunny and winds are to be less than expected....yeah right storm blows in gotta blow on out:rolleyes:
Get to the James prior to Low tide and have a hole that I love on low tide so head up the river only to find alot of work going on in this area I like to fish ...guess thats why they built these docks, Think when the ship docked it blew alot of water around and that aint good for crappie fishing....I was able to get in there and fish a little ,,,only a 300' ship sitting there surely I can squeeze in another 17' somewhere....only picked up one keeper crappie and a bunch of bream??????
labeled the hole though with my sharpie it reads Slab E, ranger. rapp, cutter ,all others prohibited.....:D
went on up the river to my high tide hangout wich produced on wed. and got 1 stump bass and a baby rockfish and notta crappie to be had ....So looked at the tide graphs and decided to pull out and change rivers,,,,
went to Rockahock aint been there since last winter,,,,supposedley high tide bout to happen , well it was,,, river was flowing into the lake and the launch dock was almost submersed....I am thinking dang more rain than I figured has happened....well head down river to dock hop and tide seemed to be forever in it changing to outgoing bout 2 hrs, behind predictions...only caught 1 keeper sized crappie a bunch of baby whiskers and another stump bass....water was muddy to be nice about its condition and flowing very well once tide changed to outgoing...So I rode to bout mid river area below the restaraunt where some 40' water is in some of the rivers many turns and did some dock investigation for future reference found several in 18' + water will get back and try em out soon as the water gets back to normal flow.....
James river was a steady 53* Chick river was 56*
the James should get messy this weekend while the chick should recover .....PEACE
Yep, yesterday was a tough day where we fished!
Don't outsmart your common sense!

Thanks for the lean report. All info is good--not just the happy info. I've been thinking about river trips, but it looks like I'd better wait a few days or longer.
Fishing since '50!
the chick recovers faster than the James ...lot of low ground and opposing waterways the James just a big ole creek
that is why this site is so good. we can not fish every body of water so it is nice to have other fellow crappie fishermen can help each other out when a spot turns on. whether you find them or not on your report. when the chick lake was hot thanks to richard , vic, and pan we all knew the patterns and general places. so thanks frank. now we know its to early. you should fish it every week to let us know:D:D tite lines JIM.B
One of these days I'll have to venture north and try out one of those rivers. Thanks for the report.
