This summer has been a strange one. Aside from the weather here in Maine being a pain to contend with the few times I made it out fishing luck has not been on my side. I have caught a few fish here and there this summer but not many and it had been a couple of months since I caught a Crappie.

It was going to be another hot sunny day here today so I made sure to get out early and try to get on some fish. I went to one of my favorite lakes. The fish here are always quality but they can refuse to bite some days.

I only fished for two hours this morning but the weather and lack of wind were on my side. Beautiful morning with a real pretty sun rising. Water temp was 75 and the fish were hanging out in an area that was anywhere from 12 to 15 feet deep. Which was out further than I usually have caught them here in the past.

Started out of the gate with a White Perch that went into the cooler. It would take me a little while to find the Crappie but a whole school showed up on my sonar and I was able to get a few into the boat before I lost them. The bite wasn’t bad this morning caught a few bass and yellow perch also. I put a second White Perch in the cooler later on.

Stopped fishing at 8:00 so as to get home and out of the hot sun early. Great morning to be out. Hopefully there will be more trips this fall as the fishing should be getting better soon.

I almost forgot this part, Bobby Garland Baby Shad in Bayou Booger color seemed to work well on a pink 1/16 oz jig head.
