    Default Solo trip, 8-2

I couldn't let another spectacular day go by without getting out on the water to get 100% use out of it. I launched and was on the water about 5:10 with the air temp at 72 and the water temp at 76 on this pond. What wind I had would die down about 6:30 giving me a nice calm outing for the most part. I'd start off trolling but my rowin' and towin' was in vain at first. For some reason the water was very stained, almost tannic looking, which is unusual for this water. Might have something to do with the amount of rain they received last week; they got hit with a number of downpours in that area.
I tried lots of different baits, both style and colors with no luck. I began to cast the weed edges and finally picked up 2 small bluegill, not picture worthy. I'd troll again for a while as I moved over to the other side of the pond to work some edges there, again with no takers. Casting the weed edge in the shady area produced a small perch and a couple of better 'gills, like this one. Basically you're average bluegill of maybe 7" or so.

As the sun sank lower, I went back to trolling and searching for schools since the wind was down and I stood a chance of hovering over and jigging from any groups found. I found them but they had lock jaw! I tried all the tricks in my book but couldn't close the deal on them. I worked a number of decent schools but they wanted nothing to do with a jigged bait. I went back to trolling over them and managed to entice the only crappie of the night, a 10"er.

I'd get one more average 'gill trolling for the landing on my way in and that would be it for tonight. I called it a night a few minutes after 8. Total for the night would be 6-7 bluegill and one each of the perch and crappie.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.
