    Default Short morning trip, 7-29

I really wanted to wet a line today after the lousy weather we've had around here for the last week or 10 days. Nothing bad on the radar, weather guesser said only the slightest chance of an isolated pop up shower this morning so off I went after taking care of the morning chores.
I got on the water about 8:10 with a few other boats out fishing or paddling around. Didn't take too long to land the first crappie of the day, about a 10" fish; I was a bit quick on the trigger by the looks of this picture, didn't quite have him down on the board yet.

I'd kept an eye on the sky and sure enough, here comes the isolated shower. I had 2 choices also known as a binary solution set. Stay out in the middle of the pond and get really soaked or beat feet for shore and maybe get not quite as soaked. I chose the latter. I picked the densest canopy of a tree I could find and was able to hop ashore and stand pretty close to the trunk and it actually worked pretty well; I only got mostly soaked.
40 minutes later the rain slacked off and I pushed off and got back to fishing. I'd hooked the first fish while trolling but decided to cast the edges of the weeds for a while. I'd stick with that method for the rest of my trip and managed a couple of small bluegills and a few more crappie.

That Tennessee Shad color stinger would account for all fish but 1, which came on a Cajun Cricket color shad body, one of the 'gills.
About the time that 11" crappie got returned, the rain returned as well. A quick decision was made to call it a day and I pulled everything in and headed for the beach. Off the water about 10:15 just ahead of a heavier downpour.
Next week looks like MUCH better weather so maybe I'll have a better trip or 2 to share.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.

Way to persevere. Getting caught in the rain is not much fun.
