Great short trip again. Glad to see you are getting out frequently. Keep up the good times. Tight lines.
After a quick watch of the weather forecast early this morning, I loaded up for a spur of the moment trip. I knew storms would be along this afternoon so it made sense to squeeze in a couple of hours this morning. Launched just shy of 8am in dead calm conditions, air temp at 71, water at 74 degrees. Mostly cloudy skies that looked like the sun might break through before too long.
I pushed over to the weed edge/drop off and tossed out 3 lines. My plan was to stay close to the edge, 12-14' of water as that's where I'd been finding them on other water in similar conditions. Roadrunner with a Stinger tail scored first with a nice bluegill.
This lure would hook a LOT of bluegill today, many of them at 8" or bit better. Lot of fight in a 8" bluegill. Love catching them this size! A couple more would follow, then a sharp strike and good fight from this LM bass, a bit over 16" on my ruler.
Lot of bluegill for the next hour, similar in size to the first for the most part. That green stinger/white tail would be the bait of choice a bit later on.
The first crappie would come about 9:30 while trolling around the point, about an 11"er.
The sun broke through about this time and stirred up a light, steady breeze for the next hour or so. I kept trolling along, hooking fish now and then.
I had turned to head back down the contour toward the landing when the wind died off completely. I began fan casting along that edge and 2 out of 3 casts would hook up with either a 'gill or a crappie. I had great action in that calm period that lasted about 20 minutes. Didn't waste much time snapping pictures but did get a few for the record.
Breeze turned back on and the bite died off when it did; I got back to trolling and hooked only 1 more crappie, which I lost about 4' from the net; I could see I barely had him hooked and couldn't quite close the deal. I called it a day at 11:30.
Totals for the day would be one each of bass, yellow perch and rock bass, 12-13 crappie and upwards of 30 bluegill. All were returned for others to enjoy.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.

Always good to find a few fish.
