    Default First Fishing Post

Hello All! It has been quite the Spring. We have found the Pond a place to escape the house and have had pretty good luck the past couple of times out. First day out found them up tight to the bank close to structure(25 keepers in hour and half) and this past weekend they were all just outside a shallow cove on a flat that was 3 feet deep just off the main channel. Caught over 60 ended up keeping 35. Put the ole Bubba electric fillet knife to work.

Welcome to C.com- Respectable day for sure, thanks for sharing. It fascinates me to see the nice-sized crappie from the North end of our East coast. Is crappie fishing pressure on the light side?

What a haul of nice fish! Welcome to the board and I look forward to seeing more of you and your family's successful trips.

What types of lures were you using this time of year?
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.

I pretty much exclusively use Southern Pro Jigs with 1/16 ounce jig head. If the water is a little rough throw a small float on and fish them slowly. Water temps were in the low 50s and very clear in particular lake I was fishing. I also like to use a beetle spin in chartreuse to really cover some water when the bite is good. Small crankbaits also work good.

10 years ago I dont think anyone fished for them. Then ice fishing picked up for them and limited open water. Once people taste them I think they are hooked. I still wouldn't say they are a primary target for very many people
