Today was the best day weather-wise in awhile, so Walt & I took advantage of it. Launched at 8:00 am - the days are getting shorter and we do not drive in the dark anymore! The air was a nice 61 degrees for a change, with the water coming in at 74 degrees. A rise in water temp from our last trip due to the extreme heat of this past week. Very cloudy with light & variable wind, from 0 to about 10 mph. Here's what the day started out looking like:

We marked very few fish, some bait, but not much in the way of fish activity:

And it actually started feeling "hot" by 11:00 am. But the breeze kicked up a bit, so it made for a very pleasant way to spend a morning with a fine fishing partner. The fishing started out with a bang. The "gray ghost" accounting for the first crappie a few minutes after we started fishing. (This horse head accounted for the majority of my fish today.) CB Slider Minnows, BG straight tails and some misc. varieties accounted for a lot of our fish today. Most on 1/8 oz. ball heads - the "ghost" and some straight tails were on 1/16 oz. heads. All side pulling at between .8 and 1.3 mph (GPS).

We averaged about 10 fish (CPR) per hour up until about 10 am. Then it slowed by 11 am and the bite all but ceased for us by the time we pulled off at 1 pm today. We netted a total of 49 fish today; 3 bluegill and one dandy white perch which you will see Walt lifting. The rest were crappie. A decent day on the water. Here's what a few of our fish looked like:

No giants, but decent fish regardless. The 'gills were very respectable as well. Saw the eagle just once while we were launching. Nothing else today. A severe cold front came through yesterday, which may have contributed to our minimal success, but who's complaining? Now we go into a vegetative state until the crazy holiday weekend is over. God Bless America!
