Default Austin TX fishing - Jan - May?

    All,

so I've been spending the winters in the Austin area the last few years and am considering bringing the boat down this year but I keep wondering....with all the shore fishing I've done on grainger, georgetown, and travis, I do not see many boats out at all during these months.

Why is that? The weather is usually really nice? Is there a reason people don't fish between Jan-May?

Because the crowd in Austin is much more about partying and posing than fishing. And Jan-May are too cold for them to be in the water. I'm sure there are some fisherman there. But by and large that crowd is all flash and no substance.

    Sorry Austin!

cold weather here keeps boats to a minimum , most lakes don't have a terribly high number of get out and git it dun folks
some lakes we hit in the winter in the dfw area won't have vessel one on them but us , sometimes we will see one more but not often
now keep this in mind ....IF someone says the bite is on at lake whatever in the winter .....it will be a boat show on the weekend for sure

Thanks for the replies, that is what I was hoping for. I wanted to be sure there wasn't some other reason like they draw down the reservoirs and only a fool goes out as it is completely unmapped for rocks or what not.

I still haven't landed a two pound crappie down there, hence the desire to bring the boat this year

2 lb fish in that part of the world are hard to come by , it might be a pretty tough task in some of those lakes .
not sure why , numbers exist in some spots , but you don't see many really large crappie in most of those lakes in that area .
