Yep , some lakes are that way in these parts , went yesterday to a spot my bud hits almost daily and he even said he thought somehow he might have missed the spawn at his home lake .
I assured him there was no way they could have already finished in there ,
probably just running late for whatever reason . Sure enough, the water was about right temperature wise and the fish were just barely getting started in there . One looked like it spawned a little in the last few weeks , but the males were not colored up real hard and close to shore and all the girl fish looked blown up in the belly and smooth as glass.
told him this about that , that lake should be about on fire in the next 2 weeks for sure
found males in around 5 to 6 foot of water and girl fish out in 8 to 12 . Some lakes just have a different schedule on the spawn timing , not sure if it the indigenous population that causes it or something far more difficult to ascertain, but to be sure some lakes run early and some not so much and it seems that the size and or average depths of the lakes may or may not play a role in it ....
this coupled with the fact they will spawn for at least around 3 months or longer in lots of places ,makes the short water fish somewhat difficult to target .
stay at em and good luck out there
