Sound like a good idea to me..... I'd start at that 8' mark or possibly deeper and put it over a stump or two.....
Shallow is always hit or miss but worth a try this time of year....
Taking the wife and son to Rayburn tomorrow for some bass fishing. Throwing in my light tackle too. I've fished the TPWD structures on conroe and marked the ones on Rayburn. But I'm thinking as warm as it's been, shouldn't they be up shallow like the bass too?
I was planning on fishing for bass from 8' to the shore. I'm thinking having the wife throw a jig out can't hurt either. Maybe even put it a foot under a cork and throw it shallow.
any advice?

Don't ever forget the Red Rattle Trap of going to Sam Rayburn for bass in spring! That bait is killer there!

well, we caught a few bass (all males) and 1 bluegill. no crappie but didn't get to spend too much time chasing them so didn't get to test the 10-12 foot range. 10 year old boy has bass on the brain!! That'll change in a few years!!
we tried shallow and out to 8 feet and soaked minnows. Most fish caught around 5-6 feet. We even went out to a TPWD structure in 15 feet of water. Caught 2 male bass and the bluegill there.
ps. SK we live in Humble and I've subscribed to your channel. Fish some with Bubba over on LH and Luce's and chat with him each week. He's a good dude!!
