Default Lake 'O the Pines Monday

Fished lake 'O the Pines Monday and thank God they are starting to get on a post spawn/summer patern. It should improve from here on. I've been trying to leave those males alone to gaurd the fry, etc but thats been hard to do lately. I had a hard time at first finding my deeper fish since the lake level is now at pool and last years landmarks are under water. I don't know why I never hit the button on my GPS the last few years and marked a spot but spider rigging the general area paid off. I caught 15 over a pound and a quarter with the best two, 1 pound 15oz and 2lb, 1 oz. Best 7 fish where just under 12 pounds. Put 'em all back. Red/Chartruse, Chartruse or plain 'ol minows. fished 10-15 feet over 25 feet. I didn't start fishing until 8:30 and stopped at 1pm when the wind got the lake rolling pretty hard.

I fished Tues and Wed with Onone over on Turkey Creek in Eastern La (see LA forum for report) and the rain has kept me home the rest of the week. I've been building a house near my lake for my minow tanks. Pictures comming soon. Don

We fished a topurnament on LOP 2 weeks ago and caught some great fish on deep timber with jigs. WE had 11.24# and got 5th place. Had a 1.78# male but no 2# fish. Last year we weighed 14.70# with 7 fish but they had already spawned out this year.

If I fished that lake, I would never fish less than 15' water and never over 10' deep! Those hogs like to suspend in deep water on that lake.

Jerry sounds like we fish alike in the summer on LOTP. I bet your weight would be much better this past weekend. I fished one on Darbonne that same weekend and had 10.30 and finished 5 also. I would have fished LOTP but thought I had 'em figured out over there on Darbonne. If you run across a good fisherman that has the time off to fish some Crappie master stuff next year point 'em my way. Don

PS LJ, My mentor, Oneon, makes me use shiners. Its part of my orentation.

    Percher,
When you fish lake o the pines in the post spawn or summer do you vertical jig the stumps on the other side of johnson creek about 12 or 13 feet down?
