does anybody know when do the crappie start spawning around the dfw area and what depth are they currently around? Any information would sure help.
Most area lakes have had it already, water has been 64 or higher for weeks now. Fished Eagle Mt for example, where crappie were in close to bank, absolutely nothing. Had to move out in deep water and found them stacked 15 to 25 feet.
On Toledo Bend they ended up spawning in deeper water, like 9'-10' because of the extended winter cold and then as soon as they started heading in this place started dropping the lake level and moved them back to that 9' -10' area and are still there. All except for two days all my fish have been caught in that water depth and this has been for weeks now.
Actually I expect them to not stay there a lot longer and will move to water say 12'-20' suspended before they finally move to a summer pattern.
I went fishshing last friday to grapevine lake and got one at 15' and the rest in between 5-7, i guess they are all along the banks right now. Thanks to you gentlemen i had a good amount of information to to fish out some great fish, thanks!!!
A friend of mine went Ray Roberts today 4-30-2010. Him and his wife caught 33 nice crappie on minnows under a cork 3 feet deep. Not to bad of a day.
That is a verry nice day out... dang I wish I should get that lucky one day, thanks for the info, I'll probably go out to Ray Roberts here pretty soon!
Are you still crappie fishing at lake Grapevine?
I started reading this without looking at the dates. The part about 64 degrees and they already spawned really threw me for a second haha
