    Default Toledo Bend

Back in the good old days (circa 1979) I took a trip to Toledo Bend and fished out of White's fishing resort in Hemphill TX. We were there in late February and caught a bunch of crappie out of somewhat primitive aluminum row boats. Some of them pushed 3 pounds. I have never seen that kind of catch of crappie since. The lake was pretty young and there were a lot of trees and you could see the boat lanes that were cut as well as creek channels by the standing timber on both sides of them. I have often dreamed of making a return trip but I fear that 38 years may have changed the lake so much that I would be disappointed. In those days, crappie were not considered as a primary target as bass were much more highly sought after. Is the lake still a good crappie producer?

Yes and can be great! However last 2 spring were shot over flooding and lake dumping water through he flood gates! Just will show one picture today.
We got our 50 that day without working hard at all and even took a 2 1/2 hour lunch, lol! When you were here the limit was 50 per person, but that changed a couple years ago before this catch by me and neighbor.

You see how many giant bass they are catching here now? I believe last year they caught 139 bass over 10 pounds! We also have a lot of nice Crappie!
