    Default New Depth Finder

Well I finally got tired of my Lowrance Elite 5 and bought me a Garmin 73 DV, I don't know if it's any better but I've heard alot of people talk good about them, anyone ever tried one before?

KK, I was about to purchase an Elite 5 chirp for the front of my boat, what is the problem with the E5?

I've had problems with it locking up Jerker, it stayed locked up on the last spot I fished on Lake Conroe for about 2 months, I called Lowrance and tried every trick they could tell and it didn't change it, finally one day on Livingston it unlocked itself, but this is the second Lowrance unit I've had trouble with.

I just went from an Elite 7 up front to the 73DV. I've only had it out twice so far but really like it.

Love older Lowrance units, had a 127c on the front of my boat for years and sold it so I could go Humminbird all the way to go with my TM so all would work together. However I still love that old 127 and it never lied to me in spring I always knew when the crappie had come in by the way they showed on my screen on that unit. Now with the new Down scan on front is better in many ways, but have not learned the regular sonar for this one yet.Have to say I do love the side and down scan units and thought I may have messed up going with Humminbird, but sticking to the not going Lowrance since they sold the company! When they got rid of the best help a fisherman had at that company and with all the complaints I saw, not going there any time soon!Plus I hear LakeMaster will finally chart HD on lower end on Toledo Bend which is where I fish will then allow me to set a count our for it to follow with out me having to steer it, looking forward to that one! My equipment is ready and only need the HD map to make it great! Can save a track now and have it follow that any time I want, but want to pick a depth contour for it to follow.Skip

Best paert of my system is what I have been waiting for a griping about to LakeMaster, they are finally going to have Toledo Bend in HD! Well at least this is what I hear and they will have the South end by Fall. I can't wait as I sure would love to pick a depth for the TM to follow and me not need to drive it! Just pick a contour for it to followw and turn it loose!

I had my 73dv (up front) and 93sv (console) on the water for 4 days last week and I'm sold on them. The 2D, downvu and sidevu (on auto) are all better than my previous Lowrances (Elite 7 and Touch 9.) Maybe I didn't have the Lowrances adjusted as well but there was no adjustment needed on the Garmins. Here is a screenshot off the 93sv but the stuff up front is just as impressive. I'll have them on the water again in a couple of days for the rest of the month.

I see you have the voltage displayed on your screen, Not many folks do that but it is a good way to keep track of your start battery condition and also to tell if the alternator is working.
Yours is showing 13.9 volts, which means you must have had your outboard running. My Yammy does not put out much charge at low RPM, but it is an old 2 banger.
