    Default Feeder Creek Crappie

Ive got a deer lease in Diana that the Little Cypress Creek is the actual boundary. Little Cypress is a feeder creek that feeds into Big Cypress which feeds into the north end of LOP. I am just wondering if anyone has ever caught crappie out of smaller feeder creeks. I bet max depth isn't no more than 12 foot. Would it be worth a try to walk down the bank with a jig pole or do you think it would be a waste of time?
You think I like to duck hunt? I love to crappie fish!

We've got a small creek here about 1.5 miles from the house that we ride 4 wheelers down to and fish. It is good for bream fishing and crappie fishing. Not very big of a creek, but this time of the year we have caught the crappie ganged up under drifts of leaves or in the tops of trees that have fallen in. Might be that you fish 10 to 15 different places before you find them and they probably won't be slabs, but I bet they are there. Good luck.

Sounds like a really good spring place, but maybe in fall too, but I have no idea if the shad run up into that area, but if they do I would think the crappie would follow.

Pintail I think you are mistaken. Little Cypress doesn't flow into LOP. It skirts the lake on the South side. It doesn't converge into Big Cypress until it almost reaches Caddo. I'm going to have to school you one day. JR

I'd take that Jig Pole and probe around come spring time! Should definitely hold some fish.

JR, we both know who does the schooling, even at fish camp. I figured out that it isn't even little cypress that boarders it, it's actually Glade.

Let's go fishing this week! I'll show you how to catch crappie.

Gentleman, ( I use that term loosely) . I shall Intervene and shed light on the above subject.
The creek running West to East under hwy 259 just South of New Diana (thats going down hill, ya know sh**t dont flow up hill), Is Little Cypress Creek / Bayou. it goes on down crosses under fm2879 then continues on East under fm 450. WE owned 390 acres at end of Will Smith Rd ,off fm449, the creek/bayou was North boundary. We owned it for 40 years, sold it last year. In all those years Deer, Duck,Squirrel, Hogs, Fish, were abundant, We never took more than we would use for or family use , we could have had all we wanted all 12 months a year, but did not over hunt or fish. FLASH back about 2004 or 05 Tom McCool always visited us, he NEVER found any violations and believe me HE tried, even the Fed warden was impressed with or place and no violations. He hinted around to go Ducking with us but we not show off our hunting abilities .
Back to answer the PTs question, In January and February we fished the creek (when the water was up after some good rains)with any color jig on spin reels and one day we 4 of us caught and released over 300 crappie all alive and 9-12 inches The water flow was swift because lots rain use 1/4 to 1/2 oz jigs. Lots fun and good eating. Thats all I have.
