Default Hoping for Lake o' Pines report..... a good one..... :)

I'm off for the holidays and wanting to catch some crappie----I know, like everyone else, right?
Anyway, I tried the Pines this morning and could only muster about 5. Pretty shameful, I know. Fished from the dam down to the first big pocket where the crowd was located in the river channel in about 30 feet of water and just couldn't get the bite going. I heard they were biting good last Sunday from one person who said they didn't get a bite today. Didn't hear any good reports for today. I was drift fishing with shiners about 1 foot off the bottom. I guess whatever I'm doing, it wasn't right.
Anyway, if anyone has a good report or some tips I love to hear 'em.
    Later,
    JBJ

Going tomorrow morning......hope to have better news to report.

    Dadgumit,

Found 'em myself today....... They're sneaky this year, I tell ya'! Hope everyone is having a wonderful Christmas eve. Came home with a nice mess of crappie, and ate a nice supper my lovely bride cooked for us, and opened presents with the in-laws and the children.
It was one of the nicest Christmas Eve's I can remember.
I am very thankful. Looking forward to celebrating the birth of Jesus tomorrow!

    Bayoumonster,
I fish on LOP where you're fishing and used to anchor out and fish about a foot or so off the bottom. That is, until everyone around me was catching way more than me. Started drifting and dragging the shiners off the bottom like they were and immediately saw good results. Looking at one of your pics, is that a white crappie you have? Never caught one of those on LOP....only the black crappie (with the specs) in your lower picture. Hopefully this cooler weather and rain we've been having lately will make them bunch up a little. If you see a red/white champion boat.....that'll be me. Hope to see you out there.

    Regards,
    Roger

    Hey Redman,
Thanks for the tip. Do you mean to drag the shiners right on the bottom? I have had one rig where the shiner is only about 3inches off the bottom and have caught fish on it, but also caught some on the top shiner on a double rig about 3.5 to 4 feet off the bottom. I'll be in an OLD white/brown fiberglass hawg trough tomorrow, hopefully. I'm worried I may not feel like going---feeling like I may be catching a cold. I'll holler at you if I see you. I should have my dad in the back and son in the middle. BTW, that is a white perch in the pic. We've caught quite a few whites in the past couple of years and actually usually catch several when we go. I like the whites the best on LOP because they're usually nice ones and so pretty. That one in the first pic was 16" and I believe he was close to 2lbs.----very thick fish. One of the biggest I've caught on the pines and he was only in 18' of water, although we didn't catch much at all that day at that depth. I've caught several about 17" but nothing really big. Still hoping---I know they're there.
THanks for the response and I'll holler at you if I see you. We usually launch at overlook.
    THanks again,
    JBJ

Have been catching white and black crappie in 24' to 28' of water using shiners from 1' to 4' up from the bottom just North of the dam, haven't seen them bunched up yet. Mostly stay anchored, if it gets slow, then I will drift till I get some bites and anchor down until it gets slow again. Lots of nice slabs with a few small ones, it has been taking me most of the day to get my limit.
    Hope this helps,
    SD

My son did some bass fish up that way, he put in at the damm Saturday, and fished e different spots for bass no catch any. He talked to few crappie fishermans and all said slow (some fishermans have been know to tell a fib) he did not see mane crappie caught while in the area.

    Bayoumonster,

Well, I didn't have much luck on my most recent outing. Took a neighbor (11 year old boy) with me and although we enjoyed the trip.....we only caught 5. He caught 3 and I caught 2, but I have the bragging rights on the largest one, LOL! We went on 03JAN13 and the wind was blowing us around pretty good despite my wind sock being deployed. I agree with ShankDog, hasn't been cold enough yet for them to start grouping up I guess. Won't be able to hit it again until late Jan or early Feb. Will head up close to the 155 bridge as the weather starts warming up. Have had pretty good luck in March or April on that end of the lake in about 10-15 ft of water. Hopefully with these rains, we'll have some new water and I can get to some of my spots. Good Luck Guys!
