    Default Finally on Rayburn

Finally got on the water and caught a few good keepers mostly on jigs, wife caught one on minnows. We caught several throwbacks some catfish and bass. All in all we had a good day on the water. The fish were on brush in 18-21' of water holding at 6-9'. Caught on minnow looking and color plastic. All were north of Jackson Hill on big trees to tie up. Nothing in the trees across from Shirley Creek though, unless they had lock jaw? Nice ride all around that end of the lake. Ferdi aka Fred

Thanks Skip, love that feel of the thump on the Russ Bailey Signature Series pole from BnM, it handles the nice size fish like there is no problem. Took me a while to figure the quick set and hard set, just lifting will not always bury the hook in the roof of the mouth. That lite tap will be missed sometimes but they will give you a second chance or see the line moving and then get a good hook set. I am glad I got talked into using jigs. I just have to start using the jigs I got from you too and quit trying to force feed the fish. That is what I was beating my head against the wall, not changing the baits colors and shapes till I found what they were wanting. It sure is more fun this way. All of the Crappie, even the throwbacks were healthy fish with shoulders and there were very few eggs in any that had eggs so looks like there was a good spawn and with the fresh cover for them to hide in we should have a great year ahead for Crappie fishing. Later, Ferdi aka Fred

I have an order of jigs on the way and they all have sickle hooks, can't wait to try them but have running to the doctors this week. Thanks for the lead on where to order the jigs. He seems to be a super upright guy. Ferdi aka Fred

Thanks for the tip about Black Forest, I have some good waypoints for there but have not fished there in years. I go there when I fish for those green things and that hasn't been for several years. You'll never have to worry about me running your jugs or lines, got no use for theives and can't stand a lier worse than a thief. Have fun and good fishing, Ferdi aka Fred

no harm meant Fredi, I made a living for a good number of years chasing them green things,Jugs and lines used to be a relaxing way to catch a good mess for a fry, but now the tournament boys will blow right throught them I wasn't to wooried about you it the few hundred Lurkers that I worry about there is about lots of brush and bamboo condos on the southeast edge
