Report in today's Abilene paper stated they are catching crappie way up the Colorado River at Lake Ivie. Catching has been very deep at 40-42 feet on minnows. Fishing is pretty good at the crappie barge at Lake Stamford early in the mornings.

Mud have you ever fished up the colorado on Ivie. Beautiful place. deep water in the river chanel all the way to 12 mi bridge. I have got to get back up there. I never have figured out where the road is going to 12mi boat ramp. It would sure save a lot of fuel to launch there. My gps map. US REC LAKES is not verry clear on the roads. It hasent even been updated to show the freeze highway. good luck holler if you want to make a trip there sometime.

You get to 12 mile on the Eden to Ballinger roadway. Just an estimate, but maybe 5 miles south out of Ballinger, you will actually see a sign that says boat ramp; however it is very, very doubtful there is enough water in that river area to navigate all the way to the lake. It can be a dynamite place for crappie in the winter, early spring when there is enough water. I have fished the upper Colorado, it can be outstanding in the feeder creeks that most, only know about by crusing into them from the main body of the lake. Crappie fishing is supposedly great at night in 30-33 feet of water on minnows in the main lake area and also over near the Abilene Pump Station. I don't care for night fishing this time of the year plus with the lake low naviagating to the spots through all the pecan and mesquite trees could be hazardous to your boat and your being.

last time I was through there was 5' higher, I could probably still launch my alum bassboat and be alright, But Im like you I dont wont to navigate the trees at night. I have been putting in at Elm Creek Marina, I`d run out of gas getting up and back in my glass boat.

No problems launching at the Concho Park Marina, fairly steep ramps, but much closer for you than Elm Creek Ramp to the Abilene Pump Station or the Colorado River portion of the lake. They have bait and food items there also. Puts you close to either the Concho arm or Colorado arm of the lake. I used to catch lots of crappie near the bridge at the Concho River portion, but have not tried in a good while.
