Garmin Y cable setups for CHIRP vs non-chirp units ...:

    QUOTE=Todd Driscoll;8667088]For echoMAP CHIRP, 73 and 93:

    Y cable: 010-12445-33 https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/pn/010-12445-33

    GT15M-IH: 010-12402-00 https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/530269
    or
    GT8HW-IH: 010-12401-10 https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/573584

    GT30: 010-01961-00 https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/540582

Only the GT30 (Side and ClearVu only) works in this combo. EchoMAPs only support one 2D sonar source, and the other xducers that offer Side and ClearVu also have 2D sonar and will not work with the y-cable.[/QUOTE]

Now would be a good time to start a folder organization system (on your PC) for your Snapshots ... This is beneficial as your Snapshots library starts growing ... and for re-viewing Snapshots on the HB unit at a future date ...

It's important to understand that the SNAPSHOTS folder must be kept intact to view the included Snapshots on the HB unit ... This means that the folder title SNAPSHOTS must not be edited in order for the unit to recognize it is Snapshots ...and the files inside the SNAPSHOTS folder must not be edited for the unit to display them ...

    My system is ...:

*Create a folder on my PC desktop labeled "Humminbird"
*Inside the "Humminbird" folder - create a new folder labeled "Humminbird Snapshots" ...
*Inside the "Humminbird Snapshots" folder - create a new folder labeled with "today's date Snapshots" ...
*Inside the "today's date Snapshots" folder - copy and paste the SNAPSHOTS folder from the SD card ...

    1. This system allows easy reference to Snapshots taken on a certain day ...
    2. This system allows keeping the SNAPSHOTS folder in tact - such that the SNAPSHOTS folder can be copied back to a SD card and recognized by the unit in order to display those Snapshots on the HB unit at a future date ....

Change "User Mode" under the Setup tab to "Advanced" to have access to all menus ...

User mode in "Normal" hides some options ...

Digital readouts are default at "Overlay" which only shows depth, speed, and water temp (depth, speed, and COG in Chart Views) ...

To get other digital data options in Sonar views (not Chart Views nor Chart combo views) ... :

*Press Menu twice to get into the Main Menu System ...
*Cursor over to the Setup tab ...
*Cursor down to Digital Readouts ...
*Cursor right or left To select "Boxes" ...
*Press Exit to get back into the Setup tab options ...
*Cursor down to *Select Readouts" ...
*Choose the data options desired in each readout box ...
    -----

To get other digital data options in Chart Views And Chart combo views ... :

*Press Menu twice to get into the Main Menu System ...
*Cursor over to the Setup tab ...
*Cursor down to Digital Readouts ...
*Cursor right or left To select "Boxes" ...
*Press Exit to get back into the Setup tab options ...
*Cursor down to *Select Nav Readouts" ...
*Choose the data options desired in each readout box ...

I]Note 1: Some readout boxes in Chart Views are hard coded and cannot be changed (dependent on software version)[/i] ...

i]Note 2: Temp will not be available in the choices unless the above procedure is performed in Normal operation ... because the unit cannot detect the temp probe is connected (in Simulator)[/i] ...

The DAT file is only needed for the HB unit to display the thumbnail snapshot on the Chart view when the cursor is placed on the waypoint on the Chart view ...

Only the PNG file is needed for viewing the ScreenShot on PC or MAC picture viewing software ...

Any version has all features and fixes of previous updates so it doesn't hurt to skip versions ...

There are a few preparations that are advised before updating ...

It's a good idea to export the waypoints and verify in HBPC that you have exported a hard copy of your waypoint library ...

    Then ...:

*Remove any map cards just in case ...
*Power on the unit by itself (no other Ethernet devices powered on) ...
*Restore Defaults under the Setup tab ...
*Insert the SD card that contains the update ...
*Select Yes from the green popup to confirm you want to update ...
*Select No from the red popup to confirm you do not want to Abort the update ...
*Wait for the unit to update and restart itself ...
*Press Exit when it boots to the Navigation disclaimer screen ...
    *Remove SD card
*Restore Defaults under the Setup tab once again ...

Humminbird DI models are not compatible with US2 ...

    https://www.minnkotamotors.com/US2-C...?LangType=1033

NOTE: Minn Kota motors with built-in Universal Sonar 2 (including those with i-Pilot Link) are not compatible with Humminbird's Down Imaging Sonar. An external XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T (83/200) or XTM 9 DI 25T (200/455) is required for all sonar readings with all HELIX 12 , HELIX 10, HELIX 9, 1100, 900, and 800 Humminbird Down Imaging units. An external XTM 9 DI 25T transducer would be required for the Down Imaging versions of the HELIX 7 and HELIX 5 along with the 788ci HD DI.

While it won't hurt the unit to operate in Normal out of the water - you would need GPS reception from the satellites in Normal mode to have access to any Chart Views or Chart settings for home study ...

Boot the unit into Simulator mode and you will have access to all features and settings in the unit ...

Press Menu during startup when the HB logo appears ...
Choose "Simulator" from the choices in the popup ...

Settings changes during Simulator operation will be remembered by the unit and utilized upon the next Normal operation boot up ...
