First of all, the screen on the SOLIX is almost twice as bright as the screen on the ONIX. SOLIX is 1500 nits. ONIX was about 800 nits. By comparison, the 1100 series was 1200 nits and the HELIX series is 1500 nits.

Second, we have improved the AG and AR coatings on the glass due to switching to a new touch screen. You should notice that the screen does not reflect as much as the ONIX does. It is on par with the HELIX.

Lastly, the stack up of displays, optical gel, touch-screens, and glass does not change from industry to industry or product to product. It is a single assembly just like the ONIX. If a gap is perceived it is because we use a thicker and thus stronger piece of glass then say your cell phone would. The gap that is perceived is the thickness of the glass – not a gap between the glass and the display.

The challenge with high performance hulls is that there is actually very little of the hull in the water when trimmed out and on plane ...

It is imperative that the shoot thru xducer be installed at a spot in the bilge that has constant contact with the water at higher speed when the boat is up and on pad ...

This means the shoot thru must be as far rearward as possible and as close to the keel line as possible ...

When the boat is up on plane you can try trimming the motor down some to stick more of the hull in the water ... If the depth reading seems to improve, it means the shoot thru is too far forward and that part of the hull is coming out of the water as the boat planes out on the pad ...

It is also possible the hull wasn't properly prepared by sanding and cleaning the install area before the shoot thru was epoxied in ...

I've even heard of rare instances where the hull is delaminated at the install spot and another spot must be used ...

The shoot thru xducer should be tested before epoxying to test for performance at all speeds ...

Here is more info on proper preparation, testing, and installation ...

QUOTE=sfw1960;8257376]I start the AS ETH 5PXG 1st and then after a few seconds or so I fire up the unit I would call the "master" (unit you're mainly tapping info from) and give that 2-3 minutes to fully come online, acquire an IP address & make sure it sees anything connected (just the 5PXG).

Then I will fire up the next of several (if you have more than one) displays allowing each to come online and acquire an IP addy.
If at any time you get a message "local sonar/GPS/etc lost - switch to local?" either ignore it for a few minutes or hit exit on the unit.

Rinse & repeat until all units are online & seeing each other without being in a hurry to view the system status (which I keep that view enabled for checking if needed).

Go into the network tabs & configure your sources as you'd like, and if they are not listed - you probably jumped the gun & didn't wait long enough.

It takes a while to get ready to go, so I am always starting up the network after I dump the rig.

If you experience repeated drops after this procedure - you may need to reset the network by yanking the Ethernet while the machines are booted - and disconnect each one by one, shutting down and again booting with NO network connection so the switch & units release the IP addresses and start fresh.

I have only had to do this ONCE in several years of networking my HB units.

I'm including a scan for an example.

Let's assume that the boat is pinned with two power poles so it
is fixed and cannot move. The bottom is level.

Question 1 -- Would the spot marked A in this scan image be directly
under the side scan transducer ?

Question 2 -- The range on this screen shot is set to 30 feet. The depth is 4.4 feet.
Is the distance from a point on the bottom directly under the transducer (A) to a point on the bottom
at the extreme edge of the scan (B) 25.6 feet ?

    thanks kindly, Chris

Hey Chris ... You have the basic idea correct for Question 1 ...

The intersection point between the dark water column and where the bottom detail starts is, indeed directly under the boat and equal to water depth ... So any target that is closer to the 360 xducer than the "value of the water depth" will be displayed in the dark water column (just like in SI - targets closer to the SI xducer than the "value of the water depth" will be displayed in the dark water column) ...

Question 2 is easily misinterpreted to think that the water depth subtracted from the Range equals bottom coverage - which is incorrect ...

The Range value entered is the "slant line distance" from the xducer to the point - so bottom coverage can be calculated using the Phythagorean theory as below ...
