I'm guessing that is 2 lbs and 11 ounces not 2.11lbs! If not your scales had to be wrong or that fish was SKINNY!

First - congratulate your friend on a truly monster crappie. It would have been hard for me to fillet that fish. I have quite a few crappies from 2 - 3 lbs mounted. I have seen many, many more (not caught by me darn it) that were in that class as well. Only a couple that were ligitimately over 4 lbs. The fact that this is a black crappie is really interesting. White crappies can get up to 17" + in about 4 years in some areas of the country. Black Crappies are generally a little shorter and fatter and it takes a good long time to grow one that big. I have checked the calculator I use to estimate weight against the actual weight of many crappies. It is usually within 10% +/-. Now given that this fish was heavy with eggs will contribute to the plus side for sure. Look close at the tape measure and let's agree (being conservative) that this fish was about 17 1/2" long. The girth on a black crappie is usually close to it's length. If this big girl was 7" wide X 2 plus she was 2" thick at the top and 2" thick at her belly, the girth would be about 18". Let's be conservative again and say the girth was 16". That would put the weight of this fish at 3.73 lbs +/- 10%. That's a big un' in anybody's book.

    Default 18.25" crappie

My mom caught one 18.25", no eggs in her, from Watts Bar lake a couple of years ago that weighed 3lbs and 5 oz. I would say yours would go 3.5lbs, maybe 3.75 lbs.
