Fish are biting now, bite year around. Dec and Jan are very good months to fish.
You might get bored watching a float with a jig on it in 3' of water in Jan.
Hey guys, just registered, been lurking for a year or so. Me and two friends are heading to Reelfoot in early March. I know thats a bit early prob. but its the only time our schedules will allow us all to go. We plan on staying 2-3 days. Will we miss out on all the action or can we do fairly well that time of year? I realize we are most likely hitting it a month early but thats the best we can do. Any advice or words of wisdom? Thanks.
P.S. I do catch quite a few Ky crappie on floats/jigs in Jan/Feb/March in the 3-5' range, can I expect these tactics to pay off in shallower waters this early?

There will be fish getting shallow in early March. Probably safe in the 5-9' range. It all depends on the weather at that time though.Originally Posted by redlined

The upper basin is usually good that time of year. I may be up that way around the tenth of March.

Early march is as goo as any time! May be better depending on the weather!!!
Lots of us are willing to help. Beware the first weekend in march as crappie masters tourney is in town! Second week, then maybe you need to get with us as we might have a tourney in there somewhere.
thats hammer time

I've done some of my best for larger fish in March, Wind is a very real issue though
Thanks for the info guys. I guess what I should have asked was what tactics would be better to try that time of year. I'm assuming the fish will still be fairly deep, but I know deep isn't very far down at Reelfoot.
Fish will actually be shallower. I do well at times in 12ft of water in march, but most folks at that time are hitting shallow water. It all depends on the weather.
