    Default Percy Priest

Hey guys I'm from Illinois and have a buddy that lives in Nashville. I'm going to go visit him the second week of December and was thinking of bringing the boat and fishing Percy Priest. What kind of water conditions should I expect? Is it a clear lake or muddy or somewhere in between? I've been looking and are the creeks and rivers on the south end navigable? I've got a Ranger 521VX if that helps the navigation answer.

    Thanks guys

While living in Nashville between the airport and Elm Hill ramp 2006 thru 2010 we fished a lot on Preist lake. Used Elm Hill ramp once. Hamilton ramp a lot. Jefferson's Springs a few times. Never during the winter. I would collect material for habitat after Christmas and leave it at Hamilton ramp. A week or 2 between visits and the material was always gone.

I fish the south end where the Stones River meets Fall and Spring Creek. You can expect the water to have a good phytoplankton bloom with 2' visibility. This is a very fertile lake with scads of baitfish. You will see clouds of shad on your sonar. With that said, pick a weekday to fish because weekends get crowded. Maybe not so much in December though. The water is in summer pool now but will be falling as the lake settles to winter pool. Winter pool can be hazardous to those who do not know the lake as there are numerous rocks and islands throughout the lake. There is a clearly defined channel with markers so you are good there, just use caution when leaving the channel.

The lake is loaded with yellow bass. Be careful removing them from a hook, they can flip sending the hook through you.

I see you're in Horn Lake. Do you ever fish Tunica Cutoff? I'm from midtown Memphis and used to fish Tunica all the time back in the 70's and 80's. Place was awesome back in the day.
