I took another friend out fishing Saturday morning. It was supposed to be really hot, so we planned on an early start. The storms from the night before had knocked out the power near where we launched, the last 2 red lights I saw on the road were completely out. I saw another vehicle blow through one of those intersections pretty fast - that could have been bad.
We launched just after 5AM and after a short boat ride arrived at my favorite spot. We used 1/16 oz jig heads with Crappie Magnet in monkey milk with a chartreuse tail and within a couple of minutes I had a nice 12 inch black crappie. The bite was pretty steady for the first couple of hours and slowed down after that. I tried pink and chartreuse, then white and chartreuse later in the morning, with white and chartreuse producing some additional crappie. The big fish of the day was a 13.25 inch white crappie, and we ended the morning with 12 keepers.
