Dr Phillip and I met at HBSP for an early morning trip before sunup. I got to meet Phil’s friend and my new friend, Randy. The crappie were active early as we landed 9 keepers on our first spot and that was before sunup.

Our third spot yielded 4 more keepers after the sun was shining. Then our next to last stop gave us the last two keepers to make a limit. To largemouth bass played with us as bonus fish but we threw them back. My wife chided me for not bringing them home as they are her favorite fish to eat. I like them too, but we had holiday plans later with the family and I didn’t want to take time to clean them.

The fish were all deep, over 20 feet in most cases. Bobby Garland in various colors worked well on 3/32 oz jig heads. We caught small crappie on the other spots that we tried. Flow was 14K and water surface temp was 87 when we stopped at 9:30 am. We didn’t take very many pics.
