Those are some nice ones. Sounds like a great trip.
I took Phil for his first crappie fishing trip this year. We did good for the conditions. We didn’t catch any slab crappie but we did have a limit of keepers, all males with their beautiful spawning colors on. We probably caught 4 short crappie for every keeper so we had a great morning, numbers wise.
We also caught 5 largemouth bass, all small, and one yellow bass. The BG baby shad colors that we used on our 1/32 oz jigs were Blue Thunder, Purple Mist, Albino Shad, Sunrise, Ghastly Minnow with Albino Shad being the hottest color early, then Sunrise later. We fished a spawning bank near a local marina. The fish were all over the place, but the big crappie could not be found. I had one that was about 12”, but the majority were 10-11”.
The wind was out of the Northeast and around 11 mph when we stopped at 11:30 am. It was cloudy, then sunny, then cloudy again as a front with rain is approaching.
Those are some nice ones. Sounds like a great trip.
