    Default Recommendations?

My 2nd grader is out of school next Wednesday the 20th, and I want to take him out. I can put him on fish at Percy Priest, but I really don't want to go that route due to the dangers of that lake. Every time I take him out there, I stay on edge. That being said, I am thinking about taking him to Woods or Tims Ford. We went to Normandy on his teacher in service day last year, but all we caught were shorts. The biggest crappie I ever caught was at Tims in the fall, but that is a tough lake to fish. I have only fished Woods in the spring. Does anyone have any tips on fishing Woods in the fall? My boat is setup for spider rigging, which is why I fish Priest, but that is too boring for him. I don't have the fancy high dollar graphs or anything like that, just an 18 ft aluminum boat with a depth finder. Thanks for the help!

Welcome aboard. I have not fished any of the lakes you mentioned so I can't help with your question. Hopefully on of the others more familiar with them will chime in.

Go back to Normandy and put in at Fire Lake boat ramp. Go to the left around the sharp bend and fish the trees on the left hand side where the channel is close to the bank. You will know it because you will see the lay down trees pointing steeply down into the water. Fish the outside of the trees in deep water with jigs and you have a good chance of your son getting his PB. Normandy will not be crowded on a Wednesday this time of year (The nuts on the jet ski's are gone). Also the water may cool a little after the cold front moves through.

I haven't done well at Woods for crappie but I have caught nice smallies there.

Thank you. I may try that. Woods is over an hour and Normandy is 30 minutes, but I have never heard of Fire Lake. I have only put in at Barton Springs or the dam.

Normandy has three ramps. One at the dam, one at Barton Springs, and continuing up river one at Fire Lake a couple miles below the second bridge over the river. If you Google Normandy you can see the ramp and how to get there. It is not far upriver from the Barton Bridge and is always less crowded than Barton. I use it because it is a mile or so closer to the places I like to fish.
