JPP Report 6/26/21 and 6/19/21
I took my wife and one of her friends out on 6/19 to troll for the crappie. We launched about 5:30 and fished about 5 hours. We caught most of the crappie near the back of my favorite cove in 13 FOW about 7 feet down, with the H2O Express CRUL D crank bait in chartreuse shad being the bait that the crappie liked the most. We ended up with 21 keeper crappie that we brought home for a fish fry. Notably, we did catch 2 crappie in over 30 FOW during a turn near the mouth of the cove, again on crank baits about 7 feet down.
There were a couple of other fishermen casting jigs near the back of the cove. On one pass, my wife's friend was reeling in a crappie and lost it about 5 feet from the boat. I do like to pick on people that fish with me, so I told her that was minus 2 fish filets for her at the fish fry tonight! The guys in the other boat heard me and looked over at us. I then told her that it was just plumb embarrassing that it happened in front of other fishermen! One of them pulled a crappie out of the water and said here's the one she just lost, I caught it!
On 6/26, I took my best friend Brett, my son Jacob and his new bride Andrea out fishing. We had a great time and ended up with 16 keeper crappie on a repeat of the previous Saturday in terms of the best crank bait, FOW, and location. Now Brett is a big Alabama fan and I am a Clemson alumni, and we were decked in team gear as usual. I believe the same 2 guys were there fishing again. One of them looked over and asked if there was going to be a fight on my boat with the Clemson and Alabama gear at odds!

Nice! I've been twice in the last week but didn't do nearly as well. Kept 4 one day and 5 another. May have been fishing too deep. Pretty sure I was running the cranks 10-13 feet deep in 14-22 feet of water.

Get a couple of those H2O Express Crul D's from Academy. The Franklin store doesn't stock them, so you'll have to order online. They run a little shallower and are great producers on the crappie. I'd also suggest using a shorter 5.5 foot rod and light reel with 6lb test with those - seems to work well with that crank bait. Hope that helps!
We didn't do as well yesterday on JPP, kept 7 nice ones. It started off fast with a couple of strikes from nice crappie, but we lost one just behind the boat, then caught a couple of short fish. After that it was about 2 hours before we caught another crappie.
