Thread: Dale Hollow

I'm from N Alabama and I got vacation time coming this week. My water is messed up till late next week at best. I am in hopes of catching some bull blue gill on early patrol. I'm not looking for your honey holes and truth be told I don't freeze fish and for sure don't wanna clean fish on vacation. Will the water be fishable? Maybe recommend the name of a good ramp and a campground near. I am only taking boat & a tent.

The water is fishable for sure. But you are more apt to catch rainbow trout and Smallies than you are bluegill right now. Not saying you wont find any but just not the best time for them up there. As to a ramp I use Holly Creek and have no idea about a campground. Go out to, and around Kemper Flats. The crappie bite is going on there also.

May I ask where is Kemper flats on the lake ? I have never heard of them? thanks steve

Take a right out of Holly Creek on to the main lake and go straight...you will run right into Kemper Flats.

All of the USACE campgrounds I am familiar with are closed right now. I have friends that have recommended Dale Hollow State park but I have no experience staying there. Lillydale, Obey River and Dale Hollow Dam campgrounds are nice if you are ever up there later in the year.

A day or two off my beaten path just looking around is what I'm really wanting. If I can hold 8-10 bull BG it's even better.

I don't know about Dale Hollow Blue Gills but i can tell you from experience the place to go is Center Hill. The water is much too cold right know for me to find them but Center Hills is home to lots of monster Gills and Shellcrackers. 1st Full moon of May and the little coves in any creek arm are loaded with them. I put in at Four Seasons Marina and fish the coves close by.

I have fished Center Hill for years. Yes it is a great bluegill, shellcracker fishery...but it in no way compares to the bluegill and shellcracker fishing at Dale Hollow. If the 2 lakes were side by side I would always pick Dale Hollow over Center Hill....but the extra 70 miles I have to drive means I only fish the Hollow a few times a year.

Do you mind expounding on the differences? I'm familiar with fishing for Center Hill bluegills with deep crickets in May and June. How do you like to fish Dale Hollow?
